As part of Local Welfare Assistance (LWA), £200,000 has been invested in a scheme to help extend the reach of FareShare across Hampshire.
Community groups and organisations who provide breakfast clubs, meals, food parcels, cookery lessons etc. for vulnerable groups and low income families, can sign up to FareShare in Hampshire for a monthly fee and collect FareShare food boxes to provide nutritious food at a fraction of the retail price.
Utilising the Hampshire Furniture Reuse Network (HFRN) locations, 6 new FareShare hubs will be working within their local communities to receive and distribute high quality, surplus food from some of the major supermarkets and food producers. By using the HFRN as spokes we aim to create better local community links, with organisations increasing their knowledge of services available in their area and working together to provide the support to local residents.
How do organisations find out more and get involved?
- Contact their local hub (see Local Welfare Assistance for details of furniture reuse network locations) or email FareShare Southern Central fareshare@scratchcharity.co.uk
- Initial meeting to discuss food requirements, costs and suitability of FareShare scheme.
- Premises inspection carried out by FareShare or trained volunteer from the hub.
- Sign up to a 2 week trial.
- Collect order from local hub.
- Agree on-going order frequency and collection details.

LWA is discretionary, non-statutory provision of support for vulnerable groups and individuals facing financial hardship and critical need.
The aims of LWA are:
To provide accessible and free (at the point of delivery) individually tailored information, advice, guidance and signposting to local residents. Ensure local community capacity is utilised to the full through developing working databases of local services and generating strong links with organisations that can support vulnerable residents.
Use the data and information generated through this process to develop, and where appropriate, commission local responses where needs present and gaps are apparent.
