Artemis is a full-time photography student at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and launched Delos Publishing as a sole trader in 2023 with just £400 of personal investment
Balancing their studies, part-time work, and business, they dedicate much of their free time to growing Delos Publishing. Since its inception, the business has released two innovative zines, with plans to expand its catalogue.
While Artemis has successfully self-funded and published two zines, limited financial resources was restricting their ability to scale the business. Artemis manages everything from production to distribution and explains that the next step is to grow Delos Publishing to a critical mass of nine publications, making it a more credible and visible presence at trade and publishing fairs.
“The grant has provided funding for two new products which are both proving profitable, therefore giving the opportunity for the business to grow by reinvesting the profits into new products and ideas. This would not have been possible without the SWEF grant, as I don’t have enough income from other sources to invest more into the business myself. Already I am seeing the more long-term effects of the grant as it allows for growth in the products and business which I am sure will continue long after the grant itself finishes.”
With a grant of £500 from SWEF, Artemis can now invest in producing additional zines, allowing Delos Publishing to expand its product range. This growth will open up new opportunities, such as attending industry events and securing trade deals. The grant has acted as a catalyst in transforming Delos Publishing from a passion project into a promising and sustainable business. With a growing arts network and an engaged social media following, Delos Publishing is now well-positioned to reach a wider audience and establish itself in the independent publishing sector.
