The High Sheriff of Hampshire is calling for public servants, individuals, volunteers, charities and community groups to submit nominations for the 2027 High Sheriff Community Awards.

Hosted by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF), the Awards are a mark of distinction and recognition, with previous award winners including Scout leaders, youth mentors, theatre groups and charitable organisations working more broadly across the region to strengthen community cohesion and connection.

This year, the Awards will shine a particular spotlight on individual volunteers and community groups who use the power of sport to help improve physical and mental wellbeing, particularly for young people most affected by inequality across the region.

However, nominations are not limited to those working in sport. The High Sheriff is also keen to recognise individuals and organisations whose work helps to build stronger, safer and more connected communities, including those supporting vulnerable people, preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, and helping people make positive choices.

William Maltby, High Sheriff of Hampshire said: “Probably the greatest privilege of being High Sheriff is the opportunity to visit the charities and organisations across the county doing incredible work to strengthen local communities and support the vulnerable.

“My theme for my High Sheriff year is sport for the young and disadvantaged, especially where it aids crime prevention. I have been welcomed by many wonderful community groups doing exactly this in all parts of Hampshire and offering a range of different sports. Many of these organisations have evolved into offering mentoring for particularly vulnerable young people. Witnessing them transforming lives has been deeply moving. The High Sheriff awards are a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of these organisations, and other individuals and organisations making a difference to their local communities.”

Jacqui Scott, HIWCF CEO, commented: “HIWCF is once again proud to support the High Sheriff in celebrating our communities and the individuals and organisations who work so hard to make Hampshire a vibrant and thriving place to live.

“This year, the Awards have a particular focus on those using sport and physical activity to bring people together and build stronger, safer communities. This could include anything from creating opportunities for young people, to bringing different communities together, supporting people who may feel isolated, or helping to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.

“We want to celebrate the many ways that sport can create opportunities, build confidence and connections, and lead to real, lasting change. If you know an individual or organisation making a difference in this way, we would encourage you to make a nomination.”

The awards will be presented by the High Sheriff at a ceremony in March 2027.
