HIWCF welcomes new Chair of Trustees, Amelia Riviere

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Amelia Riviere as its new Chair of Trustees.

Amelia joins the Foundation as it begins ambitious plans to double the endowment fund to £30 million over the next 15 years.

As a grant making charity, HIWCF specialises in funding smaller, grassroots charitable organisations which provide vital help to the people in our communities who most need it. As pressure from the cost of living continue to grow, their support is becomingly increasingly important, particularly for deprived and marginalised groups.

Nationally 55% of people report that the cost of living crisis is having a negative impact on their physical and mental health. Community groups are inundated with people seeking support for increasingly complex problems including mental health, social isolation, debt and fuel poverty. HIWCF works with local philanthropists, funders and donors to make a lasting impact with their generosity, enabling communities in Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight to flourish.

Amelia Riviere, new Chair of Trustees for HIWCF, said:

“I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of Trustees for HIWCF. I know just how effectively HIWCF supports donors and philanthropists who want to give locally to communities and causes they care about. This is an effective approach to reducing systemic inequality and improving the quality of life for so many in our communities. I am honoured to be able to play my part in helping HIWCF strengthen its network and grow its funding, ensuring that money and support reaches those who need it most.”

Jacqui Scott, CEO of HIWCF, said:

“We have always been proud to fund the kinds of organisations which are not well known, but who work quietly in their local communities providing the kind of “shoulder to shoulder” support for people that really does transform lives. Our endowment fund means that donations are invested, and the returns can be used to push vital funding into the communities that need it most. We are delighted to welcome Amelia to support us with our aim to double our endowment; she has a strong background both working within the community and in business, and has exactly the right skill set to guide us in this huge aim.”

Rebecca Kennelly MBE, outgoing Chair of Trustees, said:

“I have loved my time as a Trustee and in more recent years as Chair of Trustees, and I will greatly miss it. The highlight for me over the years has been the privilege of spending time with amazing volunteers, community groups and small charities. I wish Amelia, our incoming Chair and the wider Board of Trustees every success in their ambition to double the HIWCF endowment fund by 2040 to £30 million.”

A fond farewell for Rebecca Kennelly MBE

Taking a moment to reflect on Rebecca's time and dedication to HIWCF over the past 15 years.
