Nominations for High Sheriff of Hampshire Community Awards Now Open
The High Sheriff of Hampshire is calling for nominations to the High Sheriff of Hampshire Community Awards 2024-2025. Hosted by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation, these annual awards aim to celebrate the good work of the public servants, individuals, volunteers, charities and community organisations who work tirelessly to make Hampshire a safer and better place to live. They recognise exceptional acts and achievements, and are a mark of distinction and recognition.
This year, awards will particularly recognise the individual volunteers and volunteer driven groups who support the criminal justice system, both those within the system and those whose efforts are focused on deterrence, diversion or similar social cohesion activities in their local community.
The High Sheriff, Jon Whitaker, says: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to acknowledge ordinary people doing extraordinary things to make Hampshire a safer place to live. This year, the Community Awards will celebrate volunteers who are going above and beyond to support our criminal justice system. Already in my time as High Sheriff I have seen many examples of people going above and beyond – those who are quietly pouring their hearts and souls into making big changes in their community. These awards will shine a light on their acts of kindness, bravery and dedication to supporting our communities.”
Jacqui Scott, Chief Executive at HIWCF, says: “Every year we are proud to support the High Sheriff to make these awards; they are a wonderful showcase of the exceptional people who surround us in our day to day lives. What all the awardees we have met have had in common is their inspirational efforts to make a real difference in our society. Awards have previously been made to police constables, probation officers, street pastors, domestic abuse centres, prisoner listeners, Crown Court ushers, hate crime groups and more – very often those working in the background without much recognition. We are very much looking forward to seeing this year’s nominations and urge Hampshire residents to send in their nominations.”
