Lord-Lieutenant Nigel Atkinson Esq
President of HIWCF
Nigel Atkinson is the President of HIWCF. He became HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire in 2014 having previously been the Vice-Lord-Lieutenant.
Following six years with the Royal Green Jackets he joined the Brewing industry and now has a portfolio of non-executive positions.
He is the County President of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Patron for The Rainbow Centre Fareham, The Roberts Centre Portsmouth, Trinity Winchester and The Rowan’s Hospice Waterlooville. He is President of Hampshire Scouts, Honorary Colonel of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight ACF and Patron of the Hampshire Constabulary Volunteer Police Cadets. He is also Patron of The King Edward VI’s School in Southampton, and President of the Sparsholt College Group.
He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Brewers in the City of London in 2010 and was appointed a Knight of Grace of the Order of St John in 2015.

Susie Sheldon is President of HIWCF's Isle of Wight Community Fund. She grew up in Surrey and then studied History at Exeter University where she met her husband Jamie. It was through his family that she came to live on the Isle of Wight. After graduating from University she qualified as a Chartered Accountant with international firm KPMG. After a secondment to the tax department at Unigate she worked in the KPMG small business practice. She left in 1988 to set up her own accountancy business.
In 1994 she and Jamie moved back to the Isle of Wight and took over the family farm at Kings Manor near Freshwater and have run the family businesses from there ever since.
She has been involved in local charities and youth organisations, particularly with sailing, tennis, music and riding. Having set up an IOWPC youth tetrathlon project, she was invited to advise on inclusion in the sport at the national conference. She was instrumental in founding the IOW Sports Foundation and the Royal Yacht Squadron IOW Foundation and became Trustee and Chairman of both charities.
In 2011/2012 she was High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight and has been a Deputy Lieutenant since 2012.

Amelia Riviere brings a wealth of business and community sector experience to HIWCF through her years working in the city of London and her voluntary work as Trustee for several grassroots organisations around Hampshire. They include Trinity Winchester, which provides vital support for the homeless, Allegra’s Ambition, supporting vulnerable young people to access sport and outdoor activities, and The Hampton Trust, which supports the rehabilitation of domestic abuse offenders. Amelia is also has a wide ranging understanding of crime and social justice, having served as a Magistrate in the Adult and Youth jurisdictions for 15 years, and was the High Sheriff of Hampshire from 2023-24. Amelia values small, community-based charities because of their unique ability to understand and meet the needs of the people they support.

Krysia Butwilowska has spent her working life in secondary education, thirty years as a Headteacher in maintained, academy, independent and special schools. She is passionate about young people being given the opportunity to achieve their potential. In 2005 Krysia was presented with a Civic Award by the City of Portsmouth in recognition of her leadership of St Luke’s C of E School and for her contribution to Portsmouth’s educational and artistic life, an award of which she is extremely proud.
Currently, Krysia is Deputy Chair of the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth, Chair of Governors at Portsmouth High School and Governor of Portsmouth Academy.

Rachel is an experienced Accountant and Finance Director who has worked in and with charities for most of her professional life, helping build their financial confidence to enable effective decision making. She has worked both as a Trustee and Treasurer with charities over the past 35 years, and is particularly passionate about small, place-based charities, supporting the people who go above and beyond to make the world a better place.

Simon is a corporate lawyer and corporate affairs professional with over 35 years’ experience initially in private legal practice in Freshfields and, subsequently, as an in-house lawyer and as Group Head of Corporate Affairs at a FTSE top 10 global FMCG company.
Recently retired, he is now pleased to be able to devote more time to his other interests.
He is currently a Trustee of the White Horse Federation, a Multi Academy Trust running 31 schools in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and a Trustee of the Country Food Trust, a national food poverty alleviation charity.

Josh Hensman is an accomplished IT professional with nine years of experience in the industry. He is also an active member of his community, serving as a Trustee of Basingstoke West Scouts and having previously been a school governor. Josh’s commitment to education and community involvement speaks to his passion for making a positive impact in the lives of those around him. Josh is currently the lead volunteer for St John Ambulance in Hampshire & Isle of Wight.

Grace Cheyney gained her MA in International Relations, studying in Barcelona. Grace has since gone on to gain experience of working within non-profit organisations. She has worked in a review in evaluation position at the UN, in Geneva, and with her current position working as a Trainee Auditor at the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, in London. Grace grew up in Hampshire and frequently returns from London to visit her family farm and ride out in the countryside.

Matt has worked across the third sector for over a decade, and brings a diversity of knowledge as both a grant maker and community practitioner.
Having led a UK corporate foundation as well as regional community funding initiatives at a Lottery Distributor, Matt brings his strategic grants leadership to HIWCF as Chair of the Grants Committee.
Matt has volunteered across communities in a number of advisory roles and currently serves as a Committee Member to BBC Children in Need.

Rob runs his own IT Consultancy business specialising in cloud computing having had many years of IT experience in senior leadership positions. He is an Honorary Alderman and former Lord Mayor of Portsmouth having previously been a City Councillor for 12 years, which included portfolio responsibility for Children and Education Services. He has served and continues to serve on many local Trusts and is a Governor at three local ARK schools. He has been a member of the Portsmouth HIWCF grants panel for more than 5 years.

Ian Prideaux is a highly experienced finance and investment specialist. From 2006 to 2022 he was the in-house investment expert at the Grosvenor Estate and latterly Chief Investment Officer, reporting to the Trustees of the Grosvenor Estate. He also advised the Trustees of the Westminster Foundation. He is a Chartered Accountant having worked in his earlier career with Price Waterhouse, SG Warburg and HSBC private banking. He also holds a number of non-executive roles.

Councillor Dan Putty JP worked as a health professional in the NHS for 20 years and was also a financial adviser with Allied Dunbar and Scottish Amicable. He volunteered with the Juvenile Justice Unit and Social Services and has served as Mayor of Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council. Dan is a Councillor for the Hatch Warren & Beggarwood area of Basingstoke and a Justice of the Peace.
He has been a trustee of Basingstoke ITEC since 1995 and was previously a Trustee of Sebastian Action Trust and the Basingstoke Sports Trust, where he is still a friend to GLL who have now taken it over.

Oliver Stanley is an Executive Search Consultant with over 33 years of experience, initially within the Financial Services sector and most recently in the Foundations, Charity and Family Office sector. Oliver still works part time as well as being Chairman of the New Forest Basics Bank, which is able to open every working day thanks to its 297 volunteers. Oliver is also Deputy Chairman of Sandroyd School and previously held posts as Chairman of Princes Meade and a Governor of Sherborne School for Girls. Oliver lives in Beaulieu and is still an active offshore sailor.

Michael is currently Chair of the Isle of Wight Community Foundation, and is now retired with a background in finance and a business career in marketing and operational management, including 21 years with HSBC Bank. He has a long association with the Isle of Wight with a keen interest in community and youth issues. As a former Commodore of the Sea View Yacht Club, Michael was honoured to have recently received the RYA’s Volunteer Award for Outstanding Contribution following a programme that he introduced offering free sailing lessons to year 5 East Wight Primary schools, which has been widely applauded.

Andrew Joy has been County Councillor for Alton and Holybourne since 2009 and was re-elected again on 6th May 2021. He served on the Regulatory and Safe & Healthy People (Adult Services) Select Committees before being elected Chairman of the County Council in 2012. Until 2022 he was the Executive Member for Communities, Partnerships & External Affairs with specific roles leading on European Affairs and support services for the Armed Forces, Reservists, Veterans and families. He remains Hampshire’s Armed Forces Champion and chairs the Hampshire Civilian Military Partnership Board.
He actively represents his community and takes special interest in planning and highways, economic development, sporting and health issues. He is a member of the Hampshire Pension Fund Panel and a Trustee of Andrew’s Endowed CE School and the Eggar’s Foundation Trusts.

Jacqui Scott became CEO of HIWCF in 2021. Jacqui has worked in the not-for-profit sector in the UK for over 20 years, as a senior fundraiser working in UK and international charities, and as a fundraising consultant working with a huge range of not-for- profit and volunteer led organisations. Past volunteer roles have included ten years as RDA helper and a stint as a volunteer for South Central Ambulance Service. Until recently, she was a National Trustee for Riding for the Disabled (RDA UK) and is currently a Trustee of Netley Marsh-based Tools for Self Reliance.

Lucy Walford joined HIWCF as Philanthropy Manager in September 2023. Her role involves working closely with families, charitable trusts and businesses providing philanthropic advice and supporting donors to help causes and places in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight that they are passionate about.
Lucy has worked in the voluntary sector in the UK for over 20 years. She started her career at The Prince’s Trust working on grants programmes in London and then moved into a director role leading the organisation’s operational strategy. She has also been a consultant for a range of charities working through strategic problems and is a trustee in her spare time for ATLEU, an anti trafficking charity, and a small grant giving charity.

Joanne joined HIWCF as Grants Manager in January 2023. Her role is to help ensure the smooth running of our wide range of grant-making programmes. She is regularly out and about across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, linking with groups who are delivering grants or interested in making an application. Joanne has worked for over 20 years within the voluntary and community sector. Her work has spanned a wide range of grant-making roles, both in-house leading programmes for funders such as Comic Relief and the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and as a consultant helping funders to think about the design and impact of their grant-making programmes.

Milly joined HIWCF in 2025, bringing a passion for ethical, inclusive, and purpose-driven communications. With experience both in-house and as a consultant, she has worked with national charities and grassroots organisations to deliver impactful campaigns, lead digital transformation projects, and drive creative strategies that engage communities and influence policy.
A strong advocate for accessibility, Milly is the co-founder of a CIC that supports neurodivergent women into tech and digital careers by creating inclusive, low-barrier pathways.
She holds an M.Phil in Media Legislation and Cultural Linguistics from the University of Wales.

Sarah joined HIWCF in 2025, and having grown up in and around Hampshire she has a passion for the county, its people, and the amazing work that grassroots charities are doing to support their local communities.
Working primarily in the heritage and museum sectors previously, Sarah has had over 10 years of experience in visitor engagement, events, marketing and mostly recently in fundraising. She supports both philanthropy and communications within the HIWCF team.

Sam joined HIWCF in July 2024, having previously worked as an Office Manager for a large IT Corporation and also in a Managerial position in a High Street Bank. She has extensive experience of finance and administration tasks, having worked in this area for 20+ years. In her new role, she will handle a variety of finance tasks, providing support to the CEO while collaborating closely with both the Finance Manager and the Office Administrator.

Jo joined HIWCF in 2013 originally as a part-time job-share, having previously worked in a wide range of Sales and Finance administrative roles. Prior to joining HIWCF, Jo had taken a career break and volunteered at a local junior school for seven years, a role which led to becoming a school governor. In her admin role for the foundation, she mainly provides support to the CEO, Trustees and Board sub-committees. Jo also supports the team with a variety of HR duties as well as regulatory compliance.
